27th Season of The Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival
Full Description:
July 6th - August 10th 2008
We kick off the season with the incomparable Eroica Trio in a special program entitled “A Night at the Opera- Without the Singers”. Cellist Sara Sant’Ambrogio stays with us another week to perform the Complete Works for Cello and Piano of Beethoven with myself at the piano; guitarist Edoardo Catemario joins us from Italy for his Festival debut; we will present the transcendent “Quartet for the End of Time” by Messiaen (in honor of his 100th anniversary) with an all-star cast including clarinetist Richard Stoltzman; we honor Festival founder Lucas Drew (who will be with us) with Dvorak’s brilliant “Bass Quintet” led by William Preucil; and our final Gala will be an amazing mix of “Beethoven and Bluegrass” with the Blair String Quartet and Grammy Award winner Chris Thile and his new band Punch Brothers.
Some exciting programs in addition to the regular series of concerts include "Bach at Buck's", featuring music for strings in the warmth of a coffeehouse setting; a picnic-concert by the Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet at the Zachary-Tolbert House; "Movies about Music" on Tuesday nights with virtuoso pianist Philip Thomson improvising live to a Hitchcock silent film - and much much more.
